An Announcement From Budgens

Today, May 21, Musgrave who are the owner of the Budgens brand have announced that they are selling the business to Booker, the UK Wholesaler. In the short term this will have no impact on Thornton’s Budgens in Belsize Park. In the longer term, I feel it is good news for Belsize as Booker are likely to be more flexible than Musgrave, allowing us to do more things that will be good for our community. STOP TESCO COMING TO BELSIZE PARK

On Christmas Eve, Tesco submitted a licence application to sell alcohol from the old HSBC bank in Haverstock Hill. Tesco have signed a lease for this site and plan to open an Express store. The Tesco approach to business is about as far as you can get from our focus on people and our planet; and threatens the future of the independent retailers of Belsize including Thornton’s Budgens.
