Pennies for Plastic is not just about carrier bag reduction…
When we launched Pennies for Plastic, we wanted to combine our desire to reduce carrier bags with our social and community aims. The system is simple – for every carrier bag we save, we donate that saving (1p each) to local charities or organisations.
Having saved over 5.5 million carrier bags since we started, we have donated over £55,000 to organisations such as:
- Weston Park School
- Rosary School
- Marie Curie Hospis
- Action for Kids
- The London Centre for Cerebral Palsy
- Rokesly School
- Music For All
- North London Cricket Club
- North Middlesex Cricket Club
- Grieg Academy
- Wood Green U9 Football League
- The Gaia Foundation
- Transition Town Belsize
- The Simon Community
- The Winchester Project
- The Haringey Pheonix
- Noels Kitchen
- Food Cycle
- Morriss House
- Kith & Kids
- The Kaos Organisation
- St Marys Infant School
Pennies for Plastic has now been set up as a formal trust, with a very simple set of guidelines. If you would like to apply for a grant from the trust, please download our Pennies for Plastic Trust Outline.
If you then want to apply, please e-mail a brief proposal to Andrew Thornton. Our next Crouch End Trustees meeting is in June, so please submit any proposals by the end of May . For Belsize Park its September, so please have proposals in by the end of August.
