WE ARE SUPPORTING WAC ARTS COLLEGE FOR OUR NEW LOVE LOCAL CAUSE

THE LOVE LOCAL CAUSE: We are raising £250 to adapt existing equipment helping students of the college with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome to run their own website and online radio stream.

This Thursday (25/06/13) we will have nibbles and drinks to celebrate the new cause it will be a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have for Wac Arts!  Melanie and two of her students from the college will be there.

Wac Arts – is a wonderful organisation changing and inspiring young adults and children through the arts; it’s in Hampstead Town Hall just a few doors up from us.

They have supported disadvantaged young people from Camden and beyond since 1978!

“…(we) aim to support gifted young people who face exceptional challenges and hardship to develop their life opportunities and aspirations through arts and media”

Lots of young people have benefited from this charity some have grown and flourished into great achievers:

amongst its alumni Wac Arts counts 1996 Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets & Lies), 2004 Oscar nominee Sophie Okenedo (Hotel Rwanda), world famous jazz musicians Courtney Pine and Julian Joseph and four Mercury and Mobo Award winners including Ms Dynamite and Zoe Rahman.

Wac Arts’ formers student, Danny Sapani, now a West End actor:

“It really could so easily have gone another way. When I think back to what options I believed were available to me, they were very, very limited…. It (WAC) was a route out of – it sounds like a bit of a cliché – the ghetto. There are many types of ghettos; we’re not just talking about poverty. It’s mental poverty. It’s not being able to see anything beyond the concrete walls of your particular environment that makes you believe that this is all there is for you.”

Wac Arts has encouraged lots and lots of young people like Danny!

Don’t forget to scan your card next time you are in, all points contribute towards Wac’s cause!
